About the Author
Robert W. Foster is a distinguished civil engineer and accomplished author whose career and literary work reflect a lifelong commitment to exploring complex ideas and profound questions. A graduate of the University of Vermont in 1955, Robert went on to serve in the United States Air Force, where he completed pilot training in 1958. His expertise in the field of engineering led him to a successful career as a consulting engineer in the Framingham, Massachusetts area until his semiretirement in 1992.
Even in retirement, Robert remains active in the industry, offering consulting services in construction review and dispute resolution. He is a prolific writer for technical publications, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience. His leadership in the profession is exemplified by his tenure as president of the Fédération Internationale des Géomètres (FIG) from 1999 to 2002.
Robert’s literary contributions extend beyond technical writing, delving into the human experience and spiritual exploration. His first book, Michael’s Eyes, is a contemplative journey into the meaning of miracles and the search for purpose, inspired by the story of a man born blind who seeks answers about his miraculous healing and the events that followed.
In addition to Michael’s Eyes, Robert has authored two more compelling works:
- Decision, Decision: This novel explores the deep rift within a family when a crisis drives young Jim Fletcher away from home, alienating him from his parents, Thomas and Jean. Upon returning home after years on the West Coast, Jim’s renewed faith clashes with his father’s cynicism, leading to an intellectual and emotional struggle that forces both men to confront past decisions and their impact on the family. The story is told from Thomas’s perspective as he grapples with his own internal conflicts while trying to navigate the challenges in both his professional and personal life.
- Jonah’s Judgment: A Parable of Judgment and Justice: In this modern retelling of the biblical story of Jonah, Robert examines the timeless themes of judgment, justice, and mercy. Jonah is tasked with delivering a divine warning to the city of Ninevah, but his personal prejudices and rigid sense of justice conflict with God’s desire to show mercy. Through Jonah’s encounters with the people of Ninevah, the story challenges readers to reflect on their own interpretations of justice and the often complicated relationship between human judgment and divine will.
Beyond his professional and literary accomplishments, Robert is a dedicated family man. He was married to his wife, Margot, for 47 years until her passing in 2001. Together, they raised three sons, and Robert is a proud grandfather to two grandsons. He currently resides in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, where he continues to write and share his insights with readers.
Robert W. Foster’s books invite readers to explore the intersections of faith, family, and personal conviction, offering perspectives that resonate with both the heart and mind.
